NIU celebrates new grads at December commencement ceremonies

Congratulations to the Huskies who graduated from NIU this past December! 419 students received graduate degrees, and 744 students received undergraduate degrees during commencement ceremonies held Dec. 14-15 at the Convocation Center.

“It is a great pleasure celebrating the accomplishments of our students,” executive vice president and provost Laurie Elish-Piper said. “Congratulations to all our graduates! We are excited to see them make a positive impact in the next chapter of their lives.”

Each ceremony featured videos highlighting the success stories of graduating students and capturing the essence of what it means to be a Huskie.

Tom Skilling

During the Graduate School commencement, we awarded WGN-TV’s Tom Skilling, a passionate broadcaster, educator, trailblazer and an advocate for climate awareness an Honorary Doctoral Degree from NIU. Numerous graduate and undergraduate students, including dozens from NIU, have benefited from internships and collaborating on research projects with Skilling.

Prior to commencement, December’s graduating students were invited to Gradpalooza, a new event at NIU that provided an opportunity to decorate graduation caps, take photos and participate in other fun activities.

Thank you to staff members who volunteered their time to make the commencement proceedings run smoothly, and faculty members who showed their support for students by attending and participating in the ceremonies.
