“The convenience of attending classes without having to travel long distances allows me to manage my time effectively and be there for my family while pursuing my education and career goals.”
Dianey Rico is majoring in public health with a health administration emphasis as part of the NIU at the University Center at McHenry County College (UC MCC) program.
“As a mother of four children, a wife and a full-time worker, I have a lot on my plate. Because of these responsibilities, I chose UC MCC to complete my bachelor’s degree. Staying local had a huge impact on my decision,” Rico said.
This is the inaugural semester for Northern Illinois University’s partnership with the University Center at McHenry County College. Students can earn a four-year degree from NIU in a state-of-the-art learning environment, while having the ability to stay close to home.

NIU is offering the following academic programs in coordination with UC MCC for the 2024-25 academic year:
- B.S. in computer science with a software development emphasis.
- B.S. in early childhood education.
- B.A. or B.S. in psychology.
- B.S. in public health with a health administration emphasis.
In addition, NIU plans to launch the B.S. in business administration program in the 2025-26 academic year.
