Hundreds of NIU students make employer connections at career events

NIU Career Services welcomed 120 employees and more than 700 students to the All-majors Internship and Job Fair held on Oct. 8 at NIU’s Convocation Center. Students explored internships, full-time, part-time and student employment positions. The event was open to undergraduates, graduating seniors, graduate students, alumni and community members.

This year’s fair introduced the Career Fair Plus app, providing students with an interactive map and the ability to upload resumes and tools to research employers. This user-friendly app helped students more efficiently navigate the event.

“As a first-year recruiter and recent graduate, it was amazing to be back on campus,” Bella Alfaro, marketing coordinator at Solberg Manufacturing, Inc. and 2024 Marketing and 2025 MBA NIU alum said. “I was genuinely impressed by how prepared and professional the students were – from polished resumes to confident introductions. Career fairs like NIU’s are essential for helping students step outside their comfort zones, build confidence and develop networking and communication skills that will serve them throughout their careers.”

“Since NIU partnered with Adobe and became a Creative Campus, we have seen incredible excitement on campus,” Kevin Bryant, senior customer success manager for Adobe said. “From graduating seniors eager to brand themselves with Adobe Express to second-year students discovering our tools for the first time, inspiration was everywhere.”

“We loved seeing so many students take advantage of the chance to connect with organizations from a wide range of industries,” Steph Horgan, assistant director of Employer Engagement said. “Using Career Fair Plus for the first time made the experience more accessible and engaging for everyone.”

New partnerships this year included NIU’s Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) chapter which offered their fellow students quick interview tips and confidence boosts just before entering the fair.

“The thing I think about the most when I picture the career fair is a sense of pride, walking around to see everyone collaborating. It was invigorating to see students networking with recruiters and passionately discussing their career goals,” Hunter Egelhoff, vice president of Campus Engagement for the NIU SHRM Chapter said. “Without the help of Career Services, we as students would not have this opportunity. It was a great experience for NIU SHRM to partner and contribute to the event.”

In addition to the All-majors Internship and Job Fair, Career Services supported the College of Business, the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology and the Department of Accountancy in hosting their fall 2025 career fairs, assisting with employer participation and ensuring a consistent, coordinated experience for students.

Leading up to the fall 2025 fairs, Career Services hosted its first-ever Career Success Clinic, where 20 employers, alumni and campus partners volunteered to coach more than 150 students on networking and resumes, with Adobe highlighting creative tools and Braven sharing its career-readiness course.
