Thanksgiving can be a special time of coming together and making memories. This year, two NIU students took this to a new level, organizing a Thanksgiving meal for more than 100 people at Ellington’s Restaurant in the Holmes Student Center – a gathering that included their families and multiple generations of Huskies.

Gabby Bostwick and Alex Orloff discuss meal service with John Boswell, director of retail dining.
Gabby Bostwick and Alex Orloff are enrolled in Foodservice Systems Management in Practice (BADM 303) and, as part of the course, were tasked with planning, prepping, cooking and serving a meal. The timing of their event this month led them to create a Thanksgiving feast. In addition to serving up some great food alongside their classmates, they were able to share some special moments with their loved ones.
In addition to having family in attendance, Orloff and Bostwick were able to share some of their family recipes as part of the meal experience. Guests enjoyed family favorites such as party potatoes, pumpkin cheesecake and first snow cherry pie, in addition to the traditional turkey and ham, a vegetarian entrée, casseroles and more.
