We are supposed to have everything figured out when we get to college, right? Not the case! Change is inevitable in life and, when it comes to changing your major, it can be a change for the good.

Such is the case for Abby Byer, a junior majoring in Business Administration with an emphasis in Hospitality and Tourism Management. Byer has changed her major several times during her time at NIU and says, the assistance she received along the way helped her find her true passion and overcome some personal doubts in the process.
Statistics reveal that 45% of NIU students change their majors at least once during their first year; 12% change majors two or more times. This is higher than the national average, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.
Northern Illinois University has a robust network of resources available for students who change majors, to help them navigate through this time and position them to succeed as they move forward.
