NIU faculty can sit in on a colleague’s course to learn new teaching approaches and make connections across disciplines during Open Classroom Weeks Feb. 16-27. This is an annual opportunity where outstanding faculty give the gift of sharing their practice with the NIU community.
Visit the event website for schedule and registration information.
Open Classroom Weeks will allow faculty to:
- Observe innovative teaching practices across disciplines
- Explore fresh strategies for engagement, assessment or learning environment
- Spark ideas to adapt and personalize for their own courses
- Build relationships and cross-disciplinary insight

Unlike peer observation for tenure and promotion, the focus is on learning instead of critiquing. Faculty will leave the event with real examples of how others design activities, structure discussions and integrate technology, along with insights into how to shift student participation, assessment formats or classroom layout.
Participants are invited to a networking session Tuesday, March 3 from 2-3 p.m. to share what they saw, ask questions and plan next steps.
If you would be willing to open your classroom to your colleagues in an upcoming semester, or if you have a colleague you would like to nominate, please contact citl@niu.edu.
