Lisa Finkelstein

Dr. Finkelstein truly embodies what every professor should be at every academic institution. She is passionate about her career and field of study, and her enthusiasm is shown in her contributions and efforts to support students within the Department of Psychology. Dr. Finkelstein’s warm and sunny personality is also a notable part of why she is such an amazing professor. She brings a positive, authentic and professional manner to every student interaction and class. Her personality enriches the student experience and helps create more community within the department as a whole. Dr. Finkelstein’s ability to bring such warmth and expertise to the academic setting is a gift.

Dr. Finkelstein enriched my experience as a NIU student by offering me opportunities and by noticing my work. She recognized my efforts and extended the opportunity for me to join a pilot program for junior psychology students, Project Launch, to become a mentee to a graduate student or NIU alumnus. That opportunity allowed me to revitalize my resume and build my knowledge about graduate school. Additionally, towards the end of the mentor program, Dr. Finkelstein offered me another opportunity: to work as a TA for PSYC 101 throughout my senior year.

Overall, Lisa Finkelstein recognized me, a commuter and transfer student, and engaged with me. She has broadened my horizons and left me grateful to have met her as a professor. I hope this institution recognizes what an amazing professor they have, especially one who works so hard to create a better place for students.

Thank you, Dr. Finkelstein, for being such a kind and wonderful professor. You made me feel a part of something bigger than myself and helped me succeed. I wish you plenty of success and happiness.
